The Montre WHE dent Voice ONE Volume VIII, Number I Mb^eaMf28757 April 27, 2007 w w Share Your Moments in Swannanoa by Kelsey Blanchat Moments Cafe and Patisserie is the newest coffee shop in the Swannanoa Valley. Located just off Highway 70 across from the Ingles in Swannanoa, this classy shop is far above your average coffee joint. It offers a place of peace and comfort that attracts people of all ages and vocations into its spacious and homey rooms. The peaceful atmosphere and jazz music float throughout its four rooms, creating a per fect place to do homework, hold meetings, or just hang out with friends. The friendly owners may have familiar faces to some: Anne Foreman (our own Bible profes sor Joseph Foreman’s wife) and her son, Montreal alum Jeremy Foreman, are the co-owners of this fine establishment. The owners and staff make the experi ence enjoyable and relaxing. They are more than just staff—they are friends, and do not hesitate in helping you make decisions about what to have or just being there to talk while your drinks are freshly and skillfully made. Moments also offers a wide variety of goodies ranging from delicious’ soups and sandwiches for lunch (first come, first serve) to tantalizing desserts and delicate gourmet pastries. All baked goods are made in house and fresh every morning by Arme, who also has a gour met catering service. She really knows what she’s doing; you’ve never tasted things so delicious in your life. The coffee is just as deli cious and full of flavor as the food. Moments uses all organic coffee supplied from Counter Culture and offers three choices: Moments’ House Blend, which is a darker roast and more robust; a Specialty Organic Blend, which is smoother and a bit more mellow than the House; and a decaf option that tastes so good you’ll forget that it’s decaf. A new pot of each coffee is brewed every two hours to ensure its freshness. That’s quality right there. But Moments doesn’t just offer coffee. There are also options of hbt chocolate using Anne’s own amazing recipe, not to mention chai that will blow you away. There are also spe cialty drinks that differ daily; one favorite is the Viennese Mocha, a chocolate latte with a hint of orange and homemade whipped cream to top it off. There is also, a variety of cold drinks available, such as frappettes (like frappuc- cinos but better) and frappes made with ice cream. Smooth ies made with real fruit are also on the menu and are equally as amazing as everything else. On top of everything else, there is also free wireless avail able. There are so many more delicious things offered at Moments than were mentioned in this article, so you’re just going to have to check it out for yourself. Moments may be a little farther to drive than Power house or the Drip, but the quality of product and service plus the relaxing, spacious atmosphere make the drive well worth it. Responding to Soulforce The eastbound Soulforce Equality Ride bus arrived on the Montreat campus April 10, 2007. Their mission: To educate others on the life of an LGBT person, to dialogue with students and fac ulty, and to just voice their opin ions and stances on homosexual ity and its relation to the Bible. Leah Humphries: “A misunderstanding held by many is that the Soulforce riders came to protest and to have a pro gay movement. Soulforce came to be listened to—they came to talk and have their voices heard. They did not come aggressively, but they came passionately. If these Soulforce riders can be so pas sionate about what they believe, why are we not as passionate about God’s Word and the work He is doing in lives around the world? This brings up a good deal of questions concerning possible passion and the current apathetic state of mind. Why are we, as believers, not passionate for justice? Why are we not pas sionate about loving others with such a radical love that it turns this world upside down? Why do we not stand up for unborn children being murdered? Why is it that we couldn’t care less about genocide, famines, and war in Africa? Why are we so afraid to stand up when every one else is sitting down? How ashamed we should be at seeing how lackadaisical and apathetic we have become. We, as fol lowers of Christ, need to take a stand, even if we must do it by ourselves...Brothers and sisters in Christ, love one another, love your neighbor, love the homo sexual, love the liar, love the gossip, love the murderer. Just love. Love as Jesus Christ does. His love. His death on the cross, covers all sins...” Holly Seddon: “The only thing that Montreat students and the Equality Riders could do for each other was listen, which ended up being the best thing in the world. Although I personally do not agree that the Bible supports homosexuality, 22-year-old rider Curtis Peterson from Apple Valley, Minnesota opened my eyes. He was a gay Christian and as arrogant as I am about to sound, I never really thought of gay people as Chris tians. I just assumed that they weren’t because homosexuality went against the doctrine of the Bible. But then reality hit me: I swear, lie, lust, doubt, am pride ful, conceited—the list goes on. A sin is a sin, no matter what. Continued on Page 2
